What is Discussion Class at Nihongo Picnic like?
In this day and age, if you just want to learn through input, you can do so on YouTube and the like. We want our students to practice output as much as possible by participating in our classes. Also, since it is not easy to improve with only one hour of class per week, we have a program that allows students to make preparation and review a habit every week.
Homework in advance:
Read an article and look up vocabulary you don't understand.
Lesson:
Discuss the article with classmates and learn new vocabulary
Homework after the class:
Review the vocabulary in the article.
The confirmation test is created in Google forms, and after you submit it, it is automatically graded and you can see your score instantly.
One of the most important things to develop this habit is to make sure that the article is something that you want to read and something that you want to express your opinion about.
We discuss the topic when we are choosing a topic for an article, and several of us give each other feedback after we have written the article. It takes time to write each article, but we feel that it has become an asset for us, including our writing and feedback skills.
Originally, discussion classes were offered only for high-intermediate students. However, we have received an increasing number of requests for discussion classes from intermediate level students, so we are now offering classes for intermediate level students as well.
We have taken our original material for high-intermediate level students and reworked it for intermediate level students using the same material. We have made the vocabulary and expressions easier to understand and made each sentence a little shorter for the intermediate level.
Here’s the schedule for our weekly discussion class:
High-intermediate Discussion
Tuesday 19:00 - 20:00 JST (This class is full.)
Friday 8:30 - 9:30 am JST
Friday 20:00 - 21:00 JST

Thursday 17:00 - 18:00 JST
